Horizon!
2023-03-26 · 2 min read
I'm writing this on March 26, 2023, on an Amtrak back home. The last three days have been absolutely chaotic! I slept a record total of ten hours (and hey, I don't drink caffeine, so I think that's pretty impressive!).
I got to attend Horizon.
So much has happened over the last few days, so I thought I'd just write them down:
Sunday
- Arrived
- Had breakfast at Maman's (almond croissant, hot chocolate)
- Went to the National Museum of Math
- Went to Girls Who Code CodeFair
- Had lunch at Cava (crispy falafel!)
- Set up venue at Girl Scouts HQ
- Got pizza at Prince St. Pizza
- Went to sleep at like 11
Saturday
- Woke up at 5
- Went directly to Girl Scouts HQ
- Ran Horizon! Helped Girl Scouts (sweetest kids I've ever met!) and got a cool Neopixel + Spotify project to work (even though the lights were broken. Still!)
- Had dinner with some super influential women! My favorite was Sara Chipps, probably because conversation with her felt more natural than conversations with some of the other people. (Which is not to disparage the others! They were all so cool!)
- Twenty minute walk up to Times Square. So ethereal at night
- Got home 15 minutes after midnight
- Went to sleep at 3
Sunday
- Woke up at 7
- Had breakfast at Maman's again! (Kouign Maman, hot chocolate)
- Bought two books at B & N Union Square (East of Eden, The Goldfinch)
- Walked around World Trade Center
- Had brunch at Westville (steak and eggs with home fries and Portuguese muffins)
- Home :(
Chaos all over and I'm so happy I got to be a part of Horizon.
On a separate, I learned a ton of things from the lovely dinner and also from observing certain people (people watching is a New Yorker's favorite thing to do! Besides minding their own business of course. I think that's how you differentiate the tourists from the actual New Yorkers.)
